About Us
At Maikuro Dwell by Abiko Prosperity Initiative, our mission is to provide sustainable solutions to homelessness by offering tiny homes and employment opportunities to the unhoused population. With compassion and dedication, we strive to break the cycle of homelessness by addressing its root causes and supporting individuals in rebuilding their lives.
Together, we envision a future where every person has access to a safe place to call home and the resources they need to thrive. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where individuals facing housing insecurity can find not only shelter but also dignity, stability, and a pathway to self-sufficiency.
In the United States, an economic crisis looms large, with over 650,000 individuals finding themselves homeless. Shockingly, there has been a 12.1% surge in homelessness, with a staggering 1 in 500 Americans experiencing homelessness in 2023, marking the largest increase since 2007. Disturbingly, there's been an 84% uptick in individuals aged 55 and over seeking homelessness services, with 46% of older adults in this demographic living unsheltered according to a report released by HUD.
Compounding this crisis, HUD asserts that there are only 61 affordable housing units available for every 100 low-income renters, forcing over 30% of their annual income to be spent on housing, rendering them rent-burdened. In the most expensive areas, a daunting $63.33 per hour is needed to afford a basic 2-bedroom apartment.
Moreover, there's a severe shortage of emergency shelter beds, with only 440.5K available for 653.1K homeless individuals, leaving a staggering 203.6K gap. Alarmingly, 72% of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals lack children, and on any given night, 28% are over the age of 54, while 31% are chronically homeless (HUD).
The crisis is most pronounced in states like California, New York, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Washington, and Oregon, with states such as Georgia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Pennsylvania also grappling with significant challenges (HUD). Fear of stigma further exacerbates the situation, deterring some individuals from seeking shelter or enrolling in services that could alleviate their plight.
However, there is hope. Our solution transcends mere shelter provision, offering a holistic approach to homelessness. Through tiny homes, community integration, access to healthcare, and employment opportunities, we empower individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and stability. Our comprehensive approach fosters community, self-sufficiency, and instills hope for a brighter future.
Unlike most tiny home communities, which only scratch the surface of homelessness, we address immediate concerns, root causes, and the unique needs of each primary homeless group. We offer customized solutions for every sector of the homeless population, with the potential for nationwide scalability. Our inclusive community provides supportive services and communal activities, including job training, spiritual support, healthcare services, and mental health initiatives. We provide immediate, intermediate, and long-term solutions, offering a beacon of hope in an otherwise challenging landscape.
